Daniel's Ford parked in Golf'N Stuff

A 1947 Ford Super De Luxe was Daniel LaRusso's first car, given to him by Mr. Miyagi as a birthday gift.

History

The Karate Kid

The Ford Super De Luxe is one of the vehicles that Daniel Larusso waxes when he begins his first karate lesson from Mr. Miyagi. Daniel waxed on the left door of the car along with the grille and its front lights, though he also waxed another classic car during training. He would later choose this car as his 18th birthday gift and also for obtaining his driver's license, and began to drive it to Golf'N Stuff so he can date Ali Mills, having obtained confidence by Miyagi to find his "balance" in life. He would then take Ali Mills in that car after apologizing to her.

The Karate Kid Part II

Six months later, after being left by Ali Mills in favor of a football player from UCLA, Daniel used this car to go home, having upset that Ali dumped him.

The Karate Kid Part III

Daniel LaRusso used this car once more to visit a pottery store while trying to use his college funds to open up a bonsai tree shop for Mr. Miyagi.

Cobra Kai

At the end of Mercy, when Daniel took Robby to Mr. Miyagi's old home, the car was seen under a cover.

In Mercy Part II, Daniel showed Robby Keene the car, which Daniel described as the "best birthday gift ever" though he added that he didn't have a chance to take care of the car "the way she deserves".

In The Moment of Truth, Daniel was fixing the car while his daughter Samantha & Robby were training. Coming over, Sam asked her father if he fixed the car, which Sam called "the old banana boat". In an attempt to advertise Miyagi-Do Karate, Daniel takes Sam and Robby in the convertible to a country club, where upon arrival Amanda LaRusso, Daniel's wife is impressed with the car and asks Daniel if he could take her for a ride another time.

In All In, when Hawk and several of his Cobra Kai friends vandalize the Miyagi-Do dojo, Hawk paints "Cobra Kai NEVER DIES!!" on the side of the car. The following morning when Daniel, Sam and Robby arrive at the dojo, Daniel is livid and hearbroken to see his late mentor's gift vandalized, and drives off in the vandalized car to the Cobra Kai dojo, where he confronts Johnny Lawrence, who Daniel believes vandalized the dojo.

Trivia

  • The 1947 Super DeLuxe convertible featured in The Karate Kid films was given to Ralph Macchio as a gift. To this day, Macchio still owns the car.
  • To prepare the car for its appearance in Cobra Kai, the car's engine was replaced with a new one, disc brakes were added and the suspension was modified.
