Counselor Blatt is a minor character in the Netflix series Cobra Kai. She is portrayed by Erin Bradley Dangar.
Blatt is a counselor and a vice principal at West Valley High School. According to her actress, she is the little sister of Ali Mills' friend Susan.[1]
Biography[]
Season 1[]
Blatt is first shown to be on a phone call to Mrs. Moskowitz about Eli being bullied over his cleft palette scar. She makes an announcement the following day and keeps Eli's (later Hawk) name out of it, but people obviously know that it was him since she mentioned his gender and lip problem. Blatt then announces the Halloween dance and recommends costumes, suggesting names like "gender-neutral hospital worker" instead of "sexy nurse" (even though "nurse" is already a gender-neutral term). She is poorly thought of by Yasmine and Moon (back when they were bullies), who laugh at her while others ignore her, including Samantha, who is texting love messages to Kyler.
Blatt accepts Daniel's invitation to manage the Halloween dance and keep watch of the students, and befriends him. She's unaware that Daniel's true intentions were to keep an eye on Sam and Kyler, and protect his daughter Sam at all costs after Johnny told Daniel the truth about Kyler and his goons bullying Miguel. In the family dinner leading up to Daniel telling his family he will be acting as a chaperone for the dance, he claims he and Counselor Blatt "go way back" but does not elaborate. While speaking together at the dance, Counselor Blatt expresses that she is still surprised Ali and Daniel broke up right after high school, suggesting she was a classmate of theirs.
Blatt is seen breaking up the fight between Miguel and Kyler's gang in the school cafeteria in the episode "Counterbalance".
Season 2[]
Counselor Blatt doesn't appear in this season, as it takes place during the summer holidays. It is also unknown where she was at the first day back to West Valley High School.
Season 3[]
She appears again in this season when school opened for the first time in two weeks ever since the karate war. The School Karate Brawl between Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do's caused West Valley High to close for two weeks by the California Council Judge and the press, so the school and judge can enforce safety measures and guidelines to limit physical contact and keep the karate fighting under control. In the PTA Meeting by Mr. Lopez, Blatt and other executives of West Valley High, she and Lopez speak out to parents about their recent safety guidelines accepted by the judge and the press. When one parent asks about 'the adult man that attacked kids', referring to Stingray, Lopez and Blatt answer that they had Stingray arrested and his probation required him not to be near the school or any minor, as well as that Stingray never worked for them and was just a security guard applicant for the school. Blatt also stated that the school had organized a new campaign called "Hugs not Hits".
When Demetri and Sam confront Hawk about destroying the former's science project in the cafeteria, Blatt intervenes. Hawk parrots her buzzwords to manipulate Blatt into thinking that Sam and Demetri were instigating an argument with him, making her look unfair as a result. Later, after the PE teacher sends the Cobra Kais and Miyagi-Dos to Blatt's office for prohibited physical contact (e.g. swiping at and striking against each other) in a soccer game, Blatt proves to be unfair yet again, as she only listens to Hawk's side of the story. Blatt lets him and the Cobra Kai's go free because she thinks they were the ones being attacked, and gives detention to the Miyagi-Do's. Sam reacts poorly to this, and the Miyagi Do's skip detention to do training. Blatt doesn't appear after this.
Season 4[]
Just like season 2, Blatt is absent in seasons 4 onwards. She is never even mentioned so it is unknown what happened to her, though it's likely she is still a counselor at West Valley High School.
Personality[]
Throughout the series, Blatt has proven to be an incompetent administrator, almost completely ignorant to the bullying in her school and clueless on how to effectively deal with it. She's also shown to be more concerned with political correctness and buzzwords while turning a blind eye to the issues of racism, sexism and classism in the school, and her decisions only make things worse instead of better. She acts a bit flirtatious towards Daniel LaRusso, hinting that she might be attracted to him.
