"Penis Breath, how could you? "
―Bert to Mitch after the latter betrays Eagle Fang[src]

Bert is a supporting character in Cobra Kai. He is portrayed by Owen Morgan.

He joined the Cobra Kai Dojo as its youngest student so far. However, after being exiled by sensei John Kreese for refusing to sacrifice a hamster, he joins Eagle Fang Karate and later on trains alongside Miyagi Do Karate after the dojos merge.

Biography[]

Season 1[]

Bert joins Cobra Kai

Bert O'Neill joins Cobra Kai

Bert, along with several teenagers, join the Cobra Kai Dojo after Cobra Kai student Miguel Diaz beats up Kyler Park and his gang in their school cafeteria. On his first day, Bert and the rest of the new students are roasted by the sensei Johnny Lawrence. While Johnny's insult causes several students to quit, Bert is not among the students that quit.

In the morning of the All Valley Karate Tournament Bert tells Cobra Kai students Aisha and Hawk that he does not think Johnny will come because the previous night he saw Johnny peeing on his car and ranting, and Johnny himself ranted to him. Johnny however shows up. Bert loses to his opponent in the tournament in the match before the quarter-finals. However, all the other Cobras, including Johnny, think it was lopsided, as Bert was paired against a much bigger kid, Reid. After Miguel wins the tournament, Bert along with the other students, celebrates with him.

Season 2[]

Bert fights Nathaniel

Bert fights Nathaniel at school

Bert has a much smaller role. He is still a student at the Cobra Kai. When Johnny punishes Aisha and the others for goofing off by teaching them about concrete, Bert is seen mixing the concrete with the others (but not one of the boys made to push the cement drum). In Episode 9 he is seen welcoming Raymond, also known as Stingray. When the School brawl occurs Bert fights Miyagi-Do Karate student Nathaniel. Nathaniel has more hits, but mid-fight Bert manages to break his glasses, but this causes Nathaniel to tackle him to the ground and repeatedly punch him. However, a security guard arrives and picks up Nathaniel; Bert then tries to attack him, but the security guard grabs his hand and takes them away to the principal's office.

While Bert isn't present when Johnny's sensei John Kreese takes over that could be attributed to him being in the principal's office because of his fight with Nathaniel. Since he was more than willing to attack a Miyagi-Do student it can be implied that Bert has been corrupted by Kreese's ruthless teachings, or it may have been motivated by his rivalry and disdain for Nathaniel.

Season 3[]

Bert is expelled from Cobra Kai

Bert is expelled from Cobra Kai

After two weeks later, Bert returns to school because he was suspended because of the fight with Nathaniel. He encounters Hawk and Mitch proceeds to walk, but they are confronted by their rivals Demetri, Chris, and Nathaniel. After verbal comment, Counselor Blatt shows up and asks if everything is ok before saying they should walk away.

In the Cobra Kai Dojo, Kreese brings the hamster and asks his student Bert what he should name the hamster, he gives him the name "Clarence". Kreese then shows a snake to the class and orders Bert to feed it. Kreese says that Clarence is going to be the snake's next meal. When Bert refuses to give the hamster up, Kreese acts sympathetic and asks the whole class who else thinks that the Clarence should live. Kreese then kicks everyone who objected out of Cobra Kai. Bert is shocked and confused at this and asks Kreese what he just did. Kreese then notions for Bert to get out of the dojo and then yells at him to get out. Bert then slowly walks away from the dojo while Kreese feeds Clarence to the snake.

Bert joins Eagle Fang Karate

It is hinted that Bert was mocked by Hawk and the Cobra Kai gang due to getting kicked out by Kreese as Hawk motioned for a kicked out Mitch to go to the "rejects" table, where Bert and another former Cobra Kai were sitting at. Bert later joins Johnny's Eagle Fang Karate Dojo. On one night, Bert and the other Eagle Fang's students are invited to Samantha LaRusso's house, where Sam says they should work together. Initially, Bert along with the others, sans Miguel and Sam, are against this, but end up agreeing after Demetri makes a speech about needing to work together in order to stand up to Cobra Kai.

Bert is thrown through the window

Bert is thrown through a window

Bert is kicked through the window at the LaRusso house, showing his love for animals, as he is tricked into thinking it was the LaRusso's cat, which, in reality, was a trap set by Cobra Kai ordered by Kreese. Bert and the others are then attacked by several of the Cobra Kai's. Despite struggling for a while, Bert and his friends prevail, partly because of Hawk having a change of heart and turning on the Cobra Kai's. The following morning, Bert, the other Eagle Fang's and Hawk show up at Miyagi Do, and all of them start learning with the Miyagi Do students under the leadership of Johnny and Daniel. Having befriended each other, Nathaniel and Bert shake hands before standing together as the training begins.

Season 4[]

Bert along with Nate and the rest of the students would listen to Johnny's and Daniel's speech about Cobra Kai. Bert and Mitch would spar but Daniel interrupts them telling Johnny didn't he teaches any defense and Mitch at one point tell Daniel that "best defense is more offense", letting Bert kick Mitch twice as he was talking to Daniel. As Daniel and Johnny agreed to train their dojos from their different method, Bert and the rest of the Eagle Fang would train with Daniel.

At school, he and Nate insult Kenny and his affiliation with Cobra Kai. Kenny was about to punch Bert, but is stopped by Hawk, who tells Kenny he should get out of Cobra Kai while he still can in the process. Bert and Nate were also at the drive-in where they almost get into another confrontation between Miyagi-Do, Eagle Fang and Cobra Kai. Eagle Fang also learns that the tournament will implement a girls division. Desperate to find a female student, Bert recommends Devon to join their dojo. Bert is impressed with Devon's personality and the two train together for the tournament.

Later on, Bert would attend the junior prom with his unnamed prom date and Stingray approaches Bert, asking him how he can rejoin the Cobra Kai dojo. After Bert tells him he is no longer at Cobra Kai, Stingray looks puzzled; he then asks him if his prom afterparty got cancelled, and Bert replies "Yeah?" Stingray then suggests that he should tell everyone that he's hosting an afterparty at his house.

In the All Valley tournament, prior to the Quarterfinals, Bert lands a hit on his opponent (a Krunch Karate student) that is much bigger than him, but ends up losing to him in the end. Nonetheless, he is still at the tournament watching the final matches.

Season 5[]

Bert is at a water park alongside Eagle Fang students, Devon and Mitch. After a heated exchange between Eagle Fang, Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do, all the students are kicked out.

Bert is with Nate and Chris, they catch Mitch eating a free brownie from Cobra Kai's new location at a mall causing the latter to put the free snacks down and leave with the group.

Later, both Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang students begin training with Chozen. He gives each student an egg as well as time to hide but are picked off with ease by their new sensei. After Anthony's idea, the lesson ends with the students learning a new lesson on how to protect something of value.

Later, Bert along with Eagle Fang and Miyagi-Do goes to the Cobra Kai dojo to fight against them in order to qualify for the Sekai Taikai tournament. During the girls match, Sam wins her match and because the organizers are impressed with the dojo, Miyagi-Do qualifies. He later attends the afterparty at Miguel's apartment.

After finding out about Terry Silver bribing the referee after the 51st All-Valley, Bert goes with Sam, Hawk, Demetri, and Miguel to confront Stingray where he demonstrates the crime through Dungeons and Dragons and how Terry beat him up and framed Kreese.

Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang arrive at the Cobra Kai dojo to find evidence on Silver. However, the Cobra Kai students arrive and confront them. After an intense face-off, it's revealed by Kenny and Kyler that Mitch rejoined Cobra Kai as an undercover mole and informed them of the Miyagi-Fang's plan to break into the dojo. Bert was shocked by his friend's betrayal and asked him why is he doing this. After Mitch explained his reasons to switch back to his original dojo and turn against the the Miyagi-Fang's, a fight later breaks out. Bert and the rest of the Miyagi-Fang students were able to protect Anthony from the Cobra Kai students while Anthony used Demetri's tablet to upload the video of Silver confessing his crimes to Tory to the dojo's TV.

After a lengthy fight between the students, Daniel and Silver arrive. The two senseis later take on one another with Daniel coming out on top, defeating Silver once and for all.

Fighting Style[]

Bert strikes first, like the Cobra Kai mentality. However, Bert is possibly the weakest Cobra Kai student, as he loses almost all the fights he is shown participating in. In the All Valley Tournament, he is easily beaten by his opponent, who is much bigger than him. During the school brawl, he is bested by Nathaniel's superior defense and offense, even after Bert manages to break his glasses. Bert's fighting seems to improve slightly after joining Eagle Fang. He is shown to kick aggressively while training with Johnny. While participating in the fight in Sam's house, Bert does have some success early on, managing to kick a Cobra Kai with the help of Demetri swinging him in the air. While Bert and Nathaniel would soon be on the losing end against another Cobra Kai, Bert is later shown kicking the same Cobra Kai after Hawk changes sides.

After the merge between Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang, Bert was shown to be able to keep up with Mitch in a sparring match and even knocked him down with two strong kicks. During the tournament, Bert managed to land a hit on an opponent that was bigger than him but still lost the fight at the end. During the fight at the Cobra Kai Dojo, he was successfully protecting Anthony LaRusso by surrounding him with his fellow Miyagi-Fangs, Bert was particularly fighting a female Cobra Kai student before being pulled away from the circle. Bert all around, despite showing some improvement, may be one of the weakest Eagle Fang students, and possibly one of the weakest fighters in the Karate Kid franchise.
