Shawn Payne is an antagonist in Season 3 of Cobra Kai. He is presented as the prison enemy of Robby Keene.

Shawn appears and smacks a cellmate's head on the table, causing him to bleed and Robby checks if the cellmate is ok. Shawn then appears in Season 3, EP. 3 after when Robby was arrested and put in Sylmar Juvenile Corrections. He notices Robby watching the TV on the fundraising for Miguel's surgery and Samantha presents in it. Shawn asks Robby if that is his girl and Shawn makes fun of Samantha which causes Robby to get up and stands up to Shawn, telling him to shut up and leave him alone. Shawn then gets tempered and makes fun of Robby by saying 'karate kid wants a smackdown' and challenges him to fight, Robby tells him that his karate is for self-defence, still having his former sensei Daniel LaRusso's Miyagi karate lessons. Shawn throws the first punch and Robby blocks it and one of his goons tries to hit him in the head but Robby kicks the two goons and grabs Shawn's hands and attempts to kick him but one of the goons run into him on the table and punches him, the other goon kicks him and Shawn throws Robby across the floor and stamps and kicks on him repeatedly with his goons and then the prison announces a lockdown and back to cells. Robby seethes in pain on his ribs.
After Robby was treated by the Infirmary, Shawn bullies him further and takes his pillow. When Robby logs on the computer and goes to check his emails, it shows that for 2 weeks whilst on the run, Samantha, Amanda & Daniel have been texting him telling him to respond and tell them he's okay. Robby writes back to Sam but Shawn switches his computer off and goes to attack him again, only for an officer to intervene and say that breaktime is over. Shawn calls Robby a 'soft bitch' and Robby looks back exactly how he was in the Season 3 Teaser back in October. Robby leaves and goes back to his cell. Another day, when the SJDC juveniles have to do community service, Johnny sneaks in to visit Robby and tries to tell him that he's there for him but Robby denies Johnny and pushes him away, causing Robby to spill the soup. Shawn and his goons make fun of Robby and says that Robby's girl has left him and that his Dad hates him and has no one else. Another day after Bobby Brown visits Robby to help Johnny as Johnny is on probation for the Bar Fight, Robby leaves and tells Bobby that Johnny failed and knew he wasn't coming. Robby goes back to his cell and Shawn takes his bedsheets and vandalise Robby's bed. Another day, Robby comes in to log on the computer to message Samantha, Shawn tells him 'what's up' and Robby walks away but after thinking about Kreese's messages to survive in prison, Robby runs and kicks Shawn in the face, beats up the goons and Shawn attacks Robby and attempts to push him against the wall but Robby surprisingly does a backflip and kicks Shawn, they have a big on brawl, this time with Robby getting the upper hand, and prisoners are cheering Robby on for fighting the biggest juvie bully but the fight is broken up by two prison guards and are both held on the floor and Robby smiles at Shawn, laughing that he was defeated. After both being intervened by the prison manager, Shawn & Robby do bond and respect each other. Shawn tells him that himself ain't a snitch and Robby agrees the same, Shawn leaves in respect and this is the last time Shawn was seen.
It's unknown what juvenile crime Payne committed that resulted in getting into juvie but his last name which was called out by the guard after being sent with Robby back to cells after their huge brawl is Payne meaning his family are all named Payne as their last name. Shawn is shown to be a bully, bullying fellow juvenile inmates which could mean he bullied people in school before juvie. He is the same age as Robby and is only a month older than the latter as Robby was born February 4th 2002 as revealed by Johnny and Shannon in separate episodes.
The juvenile prison which is called Sylmar Juvenile Corrections as seen when Robby is released has juveniles from the age of 14 to the age of 18-19 year olds.

Shawn appears as a mini boss in the video game Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues which was his first appearance before Season 3 of the series.
Fighting Style
Shawn appears to have no formal training, but he is big, tough, ruthless, and an experienced brawler. He usually fights with his friends backing him up, but even alone he is very formidable. He knows how to use his size and strength, and he can take numerous full power strikes and keep coming. In their last fight he has no problem holding his own against Robby until the guards break them up.
