This article layout guide is an official policy on The Karate Kid Wiki and is considered a standard that all users should follow.
We ask that all users take the time to read the below guidelines before uploading files to the wiki. We are currently hosting 3,220 media files. Many of these files need to be modified to reach our current media standards. Images that are not used on articles may be deleted without warning.
General[]
- All images should be of an HD quality - that is 720p/HD or higher. If the image you are looking to upload is not HD, we ask you to please hold off on uploading the image.
- Acceptable image types are .jpg, .jpeg, .png, and .gif. Any other image type will be deleted after one warning to the user. Please refrain from adding any .webp images!
- All images should be uncropped and have their full resolution, unless used for infoboxes. Infobox images may be cropped to show the best version of the character/location/object possible.
- Please use common sense when cropping images. An image should fit into the infobox without showing empty space around it. If this is the case, that means the length of the image is larger than the width and the image should be adjusted.
- Please do not crop an image to focus on someone or something in the background (i.e. a background character). Images such as these will be deleted.
- When using images on an article, we ask that they be sized to either 200px or 220px, depending on the files size. This can be accomplished by adding |220px after the file name somewhere within the brackets.
Example Image.jpg|220px - Refrain from adding images not related to The Karate Kid universe.
- Do not add duplicate images. Please search for the image you are looking for before you add your own version. If you cannot locate the image, then you may upload it. If you find the image and it is incorrectly named, please contact an admin for assistance in renaming the image.
Naming[]
File names are how we identify, locate, and use images around the wiki. It is vital that images be properly named in a way that any user can find. They should therefore be named in a way that accurately depicts the topic they display.
Images that do not adhere to this policy will be renamed or deleted. When uploading images directly from your computer, please make sure that the image is saved under an identifiable name. Names should be descriptive of the image and tell the user what is featured in the image without being overly descriptive.
An unacceptable file name would be anything including "Screenshot-year-date-time-number", contain only numbers, "Unknown.jpeg", or "Daniel.jpg".
An acceptable file name would be, "Daniel LaRusso 1984.jpg", "Robby Keene S3E4.jpg", "CK-304_Robby.jpg", "304_Robby_Training.jpg" as they include the characters names and when they images take place. If you have questions on how to properly name a file, please contact an admin for help.
- Character Infobox Images: Infobox images are often cropped from a larger image to better suit an infobox. They should be named with the franchise initials, season number, character name, and an infobox identifier. The image on the bottom left is from Season 3 of Cobra Kai, contains Tory, and is used in her infobox. Therefore, it is named
CK S3 Tory Nichols Infobox.jpg. - Official Character Posters: Official character posters that are released via press sites should be titled differently then any other image. These are often used on infoboxes or on season pages. The image on the bottom right is from Cobra Kai, contains Johnny Lawrence, and is a promotional poster. Therefore, it is titled
CK Johnny Lawrence Promotional.jpg. Other acceptable/preferred versions of this images name would beCK S1 Johnny Lawrence Promo.jpgorS1 Johnny Promo.jpg, since the image is identifiable as the characters promotional image.
- Screenshots: Screenshots should be named with the season, number, and character included. The image to the right is titled
310 Miyagi-Do Eagle Fang.jpg, with 310 being the season and number (Season 3 episode 10), and Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang both being depicted in the image. Images that are uploaded that do not meet these guidelines will be removed. Cobra Kai images that are poorly or misnamed might be retained until an admin is available to rename them.
Infoboxes[]
Infobox images should have the highest possible quality that you can find. Infobox images are vital in both mobile and desktop viewing, and is the usually the first thing that users notice. The full character poster released via the network or press sites is the preferred method. These are the preferred images as they will always be the highest quality and best versions of the characters. However, they may not reflect the characters physical transformations throughout the season, which is why the following are acceptable.
- Cropped from an official episodic shoot that was released via the network or press sites.
- An HD (1080p) screenshot that is cropped so the character is centered and forward facing.
Screenshots[]
Screenshots should always be uploaded in 720p or higher. They must not be blurry, cropped, or digitized. We ask that all images be at least or larger then 200px in width and length. If the image you are attempting to upload is blurry or not the highest quality accepted, please refrain from adding it. There are several sites where you can find acceptable screenshots. You can also be patient to ensure you are screenshotting the best frame from the desired scene.
Episode Promos[]
Episode promos are official images released by the current network for any programming. They show glimpses of the episode through images. These photos should always be uploaded from a reliable source (i.e. Entertainment Weekly, Netflix Press) and and added to their associated episode page. They will usually be uploaded by an admin, however, users are permitted to add them. Please do not modify these images. The sizes of them are normally above 1000x800px in size. If the image you have is drastically smaller, we recommend finding a larger version.
- Automated Naming: Some episode promos are often named in a way that is drastically different then other files, such as
CobraKai Season3 00 08 44 19R.jpgThe reasoning for this, is that these images were downloaded directly from the Netflix press site. Altering the name of these files, which will only ever be uploaded by an admin, may result in the metadata of the image being altered. If an image appears to have a name similar to the one above, please refrain from altering it any way.
Fan Images[]
Images that depict "fanon" (fan canon) or that were created by fans are prohibited on article pages. They may be used on message walls, comments, profiles, blogs, sandboxes, or user sub-pages.
