Topanga Karate is a Karate Dojo participating in the All Valley Karate Tournament. They originate from Topanga, implying the name "Topanga Karate." They wear a unique blue gi that displays many patches, with a dragon embedded onto the front, and their signature symbol embedded onto the back.
Origin[]
Very little information exists about the dojo. It is unknown when Topanga Karate was founded and the only known fact about the dojo is their origination from Topanga, and that their student Xander Stone became the 2017 All Valley Karate Tournament champion.
Season 1[]
Topanga Karate participated in the 2018 All Valley Karate Tournament with their student Xander Stone as a title holder. In the background, several Topanga Karate students are shown facing off against students from XMA. Xander was the only Topanga student to advance to the quarter-finals, where he defeated Aisha Robinson with a swift yet powerful axe-kick. In the semi-finals, Xander loses to Miguel Diaz with the score being 1-3. Topanga Karate are still shown spectating the final matches.
Season 3[]
Many Topanga students are seen spectating the fight between Miguel Diaz and an unnamed Yoshukai Karate student during Miguel's coma.
Season 4[]
Topanga Karate returned to fight at the 2019 All Valley Tournament. Xander Stone never returned, which can be assumed that it was due to age limits or he chose not to. During the qualifying matches montage, a unnamed male Topanga Karate student loses to Cobra Kai rookie student Kenny Payne, a female student is kicked in the face by Tory Nichols, and an unnamed male student faces off Eli Moskowitz. Although the unnamed student lands a point by punching Eli's waist, he is able to defeat him by kicking him with his right foot. In the girls division, one of their students (Krupa) placed in the Top 4, defeating Gonzales in the quarterfinals and being defeated by Samantha LaRusso in the semifinals. Despite not making it to the finals, they are still shown spectating the matches, especially the girls' final between Samantha LaRusso and Tory Nichols. A handful of students also applauded when Tory defeated Sam, which gave Cobra Kai the title of grand champion and even witnessed Terry Silver give a victory speech on his intention to franchise Cobra Kai throughout the valley. They placed seventh overall.
Season 5[]
Following the tournament, previous Eagle Fang Karate student Devon Lee joined Topanga Karate after her dojo closed. Sensei Rosenthal was later approached by Terry Silver, who offered to merge Topanga Karate with his own dojo, Cobra Kai, which he accepted. During one of their sparring sessions, sensei Rosenthal told Devon that she was fighting well but too aggressively. After Rosenthal announced to his students that they would join the Cobra Kai family, he was immediately replaced by sensei Kim Da-Eun and various other senseis, much to his surprise.
The Topanga students were immediately accepting of the new changes, except for Devon, who was still wary of her rival Tory Nichols. While everyone else changed their gis for the ones from Cobra Kai, Devon temporarily kept her Topanga gi while being forced to spar against Tory, as her new sensei wanted to test their strength, claiming that she was still deciding if Cobra Kai "deserved" her as a student. Devon eventually decided to join Cobra Kai officially and was mentored by Nichols.
