Vanessa is the sister of Louie LaRusso Jr., the cousin of Daniel LaRusso and the daughter of Louie LaRusso Sr.

Season 4[]
Vanessa first appears at the LaRusso House before Sam and Miguel Diaz’s prom night where she and Louie argue about preparing appetizers in the kitchen. She later takes pictures of the whole family together.
When Daniel and Amanda are searching for help on how to deal with Anthony, whom they grounded for bullying a boy at school, Louie recommends they consult his sister, despite their skepticism, as Vanessa is a second-year grad student studying child psychology. Vanessa analyzes the underlying motivations behind Anthony's behavior at school and decides to evaluate Daniel and Amanda first. During their session, she calls them out about how they're contributing to Anthony's misbehavior, identifying their lack of attention and discipline towards their son while letting electronics be a parenting substitute throughout his childhood as the cause. Amanda tries to protest this but Vanessa uses a secret test to prove she is acting out.
Season 5[]
Vanessa reappears in the episode "Survivors", where she is at a club and revealed to be on a date with Anoush. When Louie discovers this, he gets mad and attacks Anoush for dating his sister while Vanessa attempts to break up the fight. Later on, Louie feels bad and apologises to Anoush, giving him his blessing to date Vanessa as long as he treats her well.

Vanessa initially appears to have a rather ditzy demeanor, but she is really on the ball with child psychology. She speaks with a stereotypical New Jersey accent and gesticulates.
