"Concentrate. Look in my eyes. Lock your hand, thumb inside."
Nariyoshi Miyagi to Daniel LaRusso[src]

Mr. Miyagi first taught it to Daniel LaRusso by having him wash his cars and then wax them. Unbeknownst to LaRusso, Miyagi was teaching the young man muscle memory for the technique.

Season 1[]

Daniel LaRusso taught the technique to Robby Keene in All Valley.

Season 4[]

"Wax on, wax off. It doesn't matter how many times you've done it. You always need to practice your fundamentals."
Daniel LaRusso[src]

When Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence partnered dojos to defeat Cobra Kai, the former had the students practicing the technique as he considered it to be a fundamental technique. Shortly after, Robby Keene used the technique when he challenged Cobra Kai in Let's Begin, remembering his training with Daniel. He also taught the technique to the Cobra Kai Dojo in First Learn Stand, though not through the traditional methods of cleaning that his predecessors had used. Daniel was also seen teaching the technique to Miguel Diaz in Bicephaly.
